This post is written in haste and without checking my notes, [microcasette],
but some folk, with tomorrow being Saturday, may wish to have a "shot" at
seeing the buff-breasted.
Locality: Bare/open/muddy field bound by Lake Road and Greenbush Road.
Time: 09:30-11:30
Viewed from Lake Road:
Birds seen: Buff-breasted sandpiper (1), Baird's sandpiper (1), pectoral
sandpiper (4), peregrine falcon (1), merlin (1 possibly 2), kestrel (1),
killdeer (72), American crow (98), horned lark (24).
First merlin caused most birds to scatter, 60 killdeer counted in flight.
Buff-breasted first seen in far northeast quadrant. Gusts of wind would
sweep it up, intentionally or unintentionally. After about an hour the bird
landed in southeast quadrant just south of little muddy pool for a fine view.
Horrendous winds, but with shelter in lee of car, seated on Roll-a-Stool and
with scope, observer had a very pleasant and rewarding two hours!
Cheers,
