Today we had a COOPERS HAWK hanging around our yard on and off all day -
much to the chagrin of the 'regulars.' Got a good close-up look at it
when it 'flushed' from the big group of bushes outside our back door. I
was gardening and apparently got too close!
We currently have many adults and juveniles emptying our feeders:
House Finches (adults & juveniles)
Purple Finches (adults and juveniles)
Many Rose-breasted Grosbeaks (mostly juveniles)
House Sparrows (of course) - adult and juveniles
Many Gold Finches (finishing off the sunflowers) - mainly adults
Cardinals - adult males and juveniles (m & f)
Song Sparrow - adult
Turkey Vultures (2 circling overhead this afternoon)
Female Hummingbird (Sat, 9/15)
Yesterday, we had a YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER and a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER -
unusual in our yard since the backyard is meadow-like w/out many trees,
and there is not much ground cover.
Also, of note (sorry to be so VERY late) - the third week of August, I had
an ALBINO GRACKLE visit the yard briefly. The group 'spooked' before I
could grab my camera.
I also got a good look at the resident WOODCHUCK in the meadow behind the
house...so did my dog who remarked rather loudly!
