Dear Will,
Admittedly, not being a warbler expert, I just checked my Sibley's Guide
to Birds. The bird that I identified yesterday was most definitely NOT
the COMMON YELLOWTHROAT (Genus Geothlypis). Upon taking another look (in
Sibley's) at the YELLOW-THROATED (Genus Dendroica), I am certain this is
the bird that I saw yesterday approximately 8 feet from my back steps in
very high grass/overgrowth under a bird feeder.
It was also doing the 'upside-down' thing "like a Nuthatch," as described
in Sibley's Field Guide. What really caught my attention and made me look
it up was the presence of the black check and white stripe above the eye.
