So, in an effort to cross-train and keep an aerobic base for cycling, I'm
ditching the fat skis for skinny ones this winter. I've managed to get a
good deal on a pair of skate skis and boots from last year's demo fleet and
am looking to find more info about what opportunities are available around here.
1. Is there a resort that the club frequents most often? So far, I've seen
Bolton, Smuggler's, Jay, Trapp, and have heard that the Burlington Country
club have suitable trails.
2. Is there a weekly trip that's organized, or is it an ad hoc kind of thing
with members offering rides to whoever wants to come on a given trip?
3. Passes: is it worth it to get a season's pass somewhere? The Triple
Major isn't that much more expensive than a Nordic pass from Bolton alone
and will let me go downhilling when the urge arises. I'm a grad student
with a pretty set 9-5 schedule during the week, so weekends will probably be
the only times I can get out.
4. Clothing wise: how cold/warm does it get when you're out skiing? I come
from Ottawa, Ontario (Canada) and I'm used to a very similar climate, but
I've only ever done downhill skiing with a pretty well insulated jacket and
pants so I have no idea how hot it's going to get when you're actually
skiing. I'm thinking that I can get away with using a midweight
long-sleeved bike jacket and windshell with a thermal layer underneath, but
correct me if I'm wrong. I'll probably be picking up a pair of suitable XC
pants/tights.
So yeah. Any other advice would be helpful.
