To the UVM Community:
I invite all interested students, faculty, and staff to an open forum on
the University’s “Pandemic Emergency Response” planning in the Livak
Ballroom at the Davis Center on Thursday,October 18th from 3 to 5 pm.
Why has the University undertaken this planning effort? There have been
three major worldwide flu pandemics in the last century; the most
severe, the 1918-1919 Spanish Influenza Pandemic, killed more people
than any other single event in the last century. Health officials from
all over the world believe it is inevitable that we will have another
pandemic. In light of this belief, the University has begun developing a
Pandemic Response Plan to be prepared.
On October 18th during the open forum, members of the Emergency
Management Planning Working Group (EMPWG), the group responsible for
coordinating development of the University’s Pandemic Response Plan,
will share the current draft of the plan. This will include how a
pandemic might affect UVM, how the University could respond to various
scenarios, and how you can take steps to protect yourself and your
family. Please join us and share your thoughts and ideas on the
University’s planning effort to-date.
For more information on emergency response at UVM, including information
on the pandemic response plan, visit www.uvm.edu/emergency .
Sincerely,
J. Michael Gower
