Water pipit, Anthus spinoletta, is a Eurasian species and has not been
recorded, so far as I am aware, in the US. The closests it gets is the
UK and China. Our pipit is known, depending on the author, as American
or buff-bellied pipit, Anthus rubescens. Until 1989 the water and
buff-bellied (and the European rock pipit) were lumped as one species.
They now are split into three.
