University Bookstore Textbook Buy-Back Contest for SGA Clubs and Organizations

ATTN:
University of Vermont Student Government Association Club Presidents
and Treasurers

From:
Marissa Couzens, Chair of the SGA Student Activities Committee
Jay Taylor, Chair of the SGA Student Action Committee

CC:
Kesha Ram, SGA President
DaVaughn Vincent-Bryan, SGA Vice-President
Jay Menninger, University Bookstore Manager
Pat Brown, Director of Student Life and Davis Center

Background and basic info:
In partnership with the SGA, the Bookstore is putting on a program
through the Textbook Buy-Back process. Simply put, for every Buy-Back
transaction that takes place during the regular Buy-Back dates
(December 6th to December 15th) a student will earn the ability to
cast one vote for any of the participating SGA clubs of their choice.
The club that receives the most votes will receive a monetary prize
for use by their club. The change in the total dollar value of the
transactions from last year?s Buy-Back to this year?s Buy-Back will
determine how much money will be available as prizes.

1st Place 2nd Place 3rd Place Total Avail.
No Increase from '06 $750 $500 $250 $1500
%5 Increase from '06 $1000 $650 $350 $2000
%7.5 Increase from '06 $1200 $800 $450 $2500

This is a great opportunity for clubs, especially smaller clubs, to
not only increase their visibility but also add money to their revenue
account.

Participation:
To be eligible for this contest you, or another officer of your club,
must fill out the Contest Participation Sheet. The deadline for
completion and submission of this sheet (via e-mail to
[log in to unmask]) is 4pm Tuesday, December 4th. From that pool the
Student Activities Committee will select no more than 100 clubs for
participation. Throughout the Buy-Back process the UVM Bookstore will
maintain a tally sheet for each participating club. The tallies will
be calculated by the Student Action and Student Activities Committees
of the SGA, and the prizes awarded to the clubs.

Mutual benefit of a successful contest:
- The Nebraska Book Company, a used-book wholesaler, is sponsoring
this contest to increase used-book volume at the University of Vermont.
- The greater student body benefits from the success of this contest
because the resulting increase in used-textbooks at the University
will allow the students to have more used-book options at the
beginning of each semester, saving students money
- The University Bookstore benefits from increased Buy-Back volume
because many students who sell their books at Buy-Back spend a portion
of their Buy-Back money on clothes or gifts elsewhere in the Bookstore.
- The clubs that participate will receive an increased visibility to
the students, and the winning club(s) will receive a monetary prize.
