Sterling, Kent, and Russ Ford conducted the first annual Solstice Bird
Count in Northern Franklin County this afternoon. Species confirmed by
at least two team members:
Downy Woodpecker
Blue Jays
American Crows
American Kestrel (1, Highgate)
Rock Doves
Eu Starlings
American Tree Sparrows (5, Highgate)
Horned Larks (~40, Highgate Springs)
Snow Buntings (10, Sheldon or Highgate)
Black-capped Chickadee
Common Raven
Red-tailed Hawk (pair in tree)
Sharp-shinned Hawk (downtown Swanton)
The very youngest of our team also reported a Flamingo near Missisquoi
Bay that could not be confirmed by a second member. However any other
Vermont reports of the species (presumably Phoenicopterus ruber rather
than P. roseus) would add an interesting twist to this winter's list
of irruptive species ;-) Russ
