On Saturday the 22nd I watched an immature Golden Eagle fly south over
Lake Champlain in Orwell. It flew from Larrabee's F&W Access Area,
south to Mt. Independence where it circled on updrafts before continuing
south down the lake and out of sight.
Noted field marks were the contrast of dark underwing coverts to lighter
primaries and secondaries, a dark terminal band on the light tail, and
flashes of white on the wings as it flew off.
Southern Lake Champlain can be a great place to see Eagles in the
winter, another spot to look would be Ward Marsh WMA and the Helen
Buckner Preserve in West Haven.
