    I use a fairly simple Nikon Coolpix 4600 (about 3 years old - I'm sure newer models are better) with my Nikon Fieldscope and get fair, not great, results.  I made a scope-to-camera adapter from a PVC coupling from Aubuchon's and this works better than simply holding the lens to the eyepiece.
    One thing which would definitely help would be a cable release socket on my camera.  Mashing a pushbutton shutter release by hand is definitely not a contributor to picture quality, and it seems like my current system needs about three hands to work well.
