Thanks to Scott and others, I found a small flock of redpolls this
morning working the ornamental birches in front of #10 Deerfield Rd. in
So. Burlington; a life bird for me, so I am thrilled. I was able to
watch their acrobatics for quite a while; no apparent Hoaries . I was
interested that only one had a noticeable red "poll"; the caps on the
others were more of a rusty brown. Then again, light wasn't great. Then
headed south on Spear St.--just north of intersection of Barstow Rd. on
west side was a small flock (9 or 10) pine grosbeaks feeding in a
weeping willow. In Shelburne on Spinnaker Rd. just off Bay Rd. 9 cedar
waxwings (no bohemians in that group); At the fishing access, in
Shelburne five or six flights of canada geese took off toward the south.
Not much else except for 3 common megansers, and on Harbor lRd. across
from the boat yard, only a large group of mallards; no sign of the
harlequin duck around 10:00 am. A very nice morning indeed. Nancy
