I was watching my feeders this morning when there was a sudden
panicked exodus of mourning doves, chickadees, titmice, tree sparrows
and blue jays. I looked up, and there was a Cooper's hawk in a nearby
tree, looking unusually huge against the snow. It was odd that the
hawk landed in the tree rather than chasing the feeder birds, who
seemed to make easy targets as they took off over open lawn.
