It was very dark here this morning. First rain, then ice pelting the
window, then snow (still coming down)
with high winds expected all day. I looked out and saw three House
Finches and thought of the finch question here, even before opening
the day's email and seeing all the finch messages.
In addition, we had the usual Juncoes, Chickadees, Tufted Titmice.
Also had a pair of Bluejays, a lone Starling, a lone male Pine Grosbeak,
and (significantly!) eight Northen Cardinals (4m, 4f ) ~ to my great delight!
What mix of seed are folks using?
I have half black oil sunflower mixed with half Chickadee mix.
Sometimes I toss in some Cardinal mix ~ which may be a good idea
after today's sighting.
Also, I keep some nyger seed out, and a chunk of peanut or berry suet.
