Wow! What is it with all these owls? Anyone know if there has been
a rodent explosion this year?
On my way home from work tonight, around 6pm (half an hour after
pitch black), and at the New Moon, what should cross the road in my
headlights? No, not a deer ~ an owl! It was a big, fat owl, light
underneath (but that's to be expected). Probably not a Snowy because
it wasn't pure white in the headlights, so more likely a Barred Owl,
though could also be a Great Horned. Very cool.
Location was on River Road in Jericho, about half way between Brown's
Trace Road and Route 15, with fields on one side of the road and
trees on the other. The owl was flying from the field over to about
halfway up a tree.
And here I'd been sorry I couldn't go owling today because I had to work! LOL!
Thanks for the update and the correction, Maeve Kim! :-) June in Jericho
