Ah yes, I did leave that out: what I'm suggesting would be to pass the
files through Word for Windows. For example, I just took a Mac
WordPerfect file from 1999 (v. 3.x?), opened it in WinWord 2007, saved
it as a .docx, reopened it in Mac Word 2008. It kept the formatting and
even the endnotes. It lost the Cyrillic characters, or rather translated
them incorrectly. Not bad. But a that's a one-at-a-time process, so if
there are many files that might be tedious. If that's the case then 80
bucks for MacLink doesn't sound like a bad deal.
