Hubby and I took a drive out to South Hero today and ended walking on
the Causeway. It was amazing to be out there with no wind and even
the broad Lake fairly glassy. Small sections of ice were floating
out from the bay, through the cut and into the Lake. Many ducks out
there, but I didn't have my binoculars along (duh!). Someone was out
there with a spotting scope, though, and said there were "just" the
usuals. An American Robin crossed our path.
Nonetheless, I counted the Osprey platforms and nests as we drove
along the Sandbar, and here are the results to date:
8 platforms:
2 with nests well underway...and with adult birds in them. Got to
see one fly off...very cool.
3 with nests started
3 still vacant
Driving south along Route 7, between Maplefields and Elm Hill Farm,
saw a Great Blue Heron flying over the wet fields to the right.
If the day is fine, we may go back tomorrow ~ with binocs and camera!
Sure hope everyone got out to play today. :-) ~ June in Jericho
