The British and the Battle of Hubbardton
HUBBARDTON, Vt. - On Sunday, June 8, Brigadier Paul Loding of His
Majesty's 53rd Regiment of Foot will tell the British story of the
Revolutionary War Battle of Hubbardton at the Hubbardton Battlefield
State Historic Site. The program starts at 2:00 p.m. Loding is a
long-time re-enactor and has participated in the Revolutionary War
encampment at Hubbardton for many years.
The Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site preserves the location of
the only Revolutionary War battle in Vermont. The battle, a successful
American rear guard action in which the British gained the field,
involved approximately 2,130 troops. The site is on Monument Hill Road
six miles off VT Route 30 in Hubbardton or seven miles off exit 5 on US
Route 4 in Castleton. Carefully follow the signs. The site is open
Thursdays through Sundays and Monday holidays, 9:30 to 5:00 p.m.
