Today I observed a male baltimore oriole in hot pursuit of a blue jay into the crown of a tall
tree near the boat launch at Old Ferry Rd. There was some commotion and after less than a
minute the blue jay reemerged and flew away. -- Blue jays are known a nest robbers, stealing
eggs and baby birds--- I stood for another 10 minutes or so waiting for the oriole reemerge,
but in vain. Instead I caught sight of a bird flitting in and out of the brushy trees at the CT
River's edge. I got a few shots in before it flew away. Looking at the pictures at home I
discovered that it was a female baltimore oriole gathering material for a nest. Here are the
