Since this is an online tool now, we renew it every year so that we
can use it for collection development. We also set up monthly reminder
of certain specialties we want to keep track of.

We *just* purchased Doody's Core List for the first time a week ago

I can't speak to other ways, but I will say that I have the annual
subscription to Doody's and find it invaluable for collection
development.  It's relatively inexpensive, keeps me up-to-date, and I
am able to justify purchases.
I also use it to keep faculty informed of new titles.  I like to send
them reviews of books, especially potential new textbooks.

I have been purchasing Doody's every other year.  I only add about 200
books a year and use Doody's as a guide for new editions and new works
for the collection.

We are planning on canceling at our October renewal.  I use the weekly
Majors medical booklists  almost exclusively these days.  These list
the Doody rating and are free.

I work in a rural hospital library.  I used to purchase it every year,
but 2 years ago I quit purchasing it altogether as it had too many
titles listed to be useful for a small hospital library.  I long for
the good ole Brandon-Hill List days.

I purchased it the first two years it was released, but noticed there
did not seem to be much variation in the content, so I now purchase it
every other year.

I purchased it last year for the first time.  I used it because the
collection was so badly updated and I did it for the physicians' library
as well.  I am really not sure whether I will purchase this year or not.
I have updated my collection and won't need to start from scratch. It
depends on what I have financially.  I do not purchase the review
portion.  I purchase the cheaper list only.

I have subscribed to Doody's yearly
for several yeas.

I find it to be beneficial because I do not get
the ads from publishers that I used to get- so this
keeps me apprised of new titles and new editions.

I have not found any other useful collection
development tol- if you learn of one- please share.

Thanks for the email.  There 10 2009 copyright titles and 315 2008
titles.  The 2008 list has about 800 new titles on the list.
