Here at Danby Four Corners near Danby Pond all 6 boxes of Tree Swallows have fledged, one box of Bluebirds-4 young have fledged. Second nesting in neighbors box. For the past several years the female has started a second nest while the male feeds first. She has always done this in a different box then first. Do not know if they reuse first box if no second site is available. The House Wrens are here- at least 3 singing. The Kestrel is now feeding young who are very vocal when it is feeding time. Have not seen them at entrance hole yet. The Kestrels are more than likely the reason the Tree Swallows and Bluebirds have departed and Wrens have not occupied a box. Pretty intimidating having a hawk perched on top of your house. Next year I will move the box to far end of field away from the other bird boxes. The Savannah Sparrows, Bobolinks and Song Sparrows all have young out and flying. The Meadow Lark is singing again, time for second brood. While working in the garden yesterday morning the Ravens flew over with three young in tow, no wonder they are scavengers with squawking young tagging along it would be impossible to sneak up on prey. The Turkey Vulture pair have two young this year, they are flying. A mother turkey and 9 young have taken a liken to my strawberry patch. I also have Alder Flycatcher, Common Yellow-throat and Yellow warblers carrying food.
