Fellow CSSAers,
OK, OK, so I couldn't make it to Votey 367 last night. I was learning
to meditate. (Really, I was.) If something interesting happened,
please let me know.
As I've expressed to Mike, I would like to be in charge of web duties
for the CSSA. Of course, if there are others who would also like to
take up the position, we can vote on it. If I may summarize what I
would do (and how), it would be as follows:
The Webmaster will spend 1-2 hours a week working on the website using
the account provided by CEMS. The audience of this website will be
students and faculty of CEMS as well as the wider UVM community.
The homepage should use language and design appropriate for
those audiences. The website will also serve as a portal for
interactive features (i.e. discussion forums, registration) and things
that would be of interest to CSSA members and officers. The
installation of such interactive features will not impede the general
maintenance of the website.
The Webmaster can let others have access to the account in order to
write content for the website. However, the Webmaster has the power
to veto or change substantial revisions. Where possible, the
Webmaster should be as accommodating as possible. If there is
contention, he or she will take a consensus on the matter at the next
officer meeting.
The general maintenance of the website should only require a text
editor, knowledge of HTML/CSS, and minimal knowledge of PHP for
template purposes. This way, new members can get up to speed quickly.
Where interactive features are desired that could consume a lot of
resources or not work on the CEMS account, they should be hosted
elsewhere. The Webmaster will link to the other host(s), and should
strive to ensure that visitors will see a consistent navigation on the
CSSA website.
Finally, other members of the CSSA should submit information about
current events to the Webmaster so that the website can be updated in
a timely manner. The Webmaster or other members should make an effort
to take pictures at events and upload them to the website.
I know that keeping the website updated with useful information has
been a problem in the past. In some cases, that was my fault. Sorry.
But we can move past that. I believe I have a reasonable idea of
the time involved and have the skills to do this. So, with that in
mind, consider me for the position of Webmaster.
Thanks,
/e
