A quick (and chilly!) walk out the beach trail at Delta Park this
morning netted my beginning birder friend three life list birds.
We saw a first year Green Heron, too naive yet to see us as threats,
preening and fishing only a few feet from us. I've never had such a
close and long look at this species!
A little flock of shorebirds turned out to be 4 Pectoral Sandpipers,
1 Least Sandpiper and 1 Semipalmated Plover. They, too, got very
close to us, at one point so close that it was easier to look without
We also saw or heard Canada Geese, Ring-billed Gulls, Mourning Doves,
a Belted Kingfisher, Blue Jays, American Crows, Black-capped
Chickadees and one White-throated Sparrow. (The sparrow was in the
cedars next to the parking lot.)
