I have a comment regarding Richard's post about lower numbers. I've been banding Ruby-throated hummingbirds at the same location in W. Mass for 4 years now, and my productivity is significantly lower this year when
compared to the previous 3 years. I attribute this to the unusual amount of rainy and windy weather that we've had this summer, particularly in July. My banding season has not yet ended, but when it does I'll post
a comparative chart of productivity for 2005-2008. Other birds seem to be in much lower numbers as well, although we can't put up seed feeders due to black bears, so don't see as many birds around anyway.
