Cool, more creepy woodland sounds! My resource for good sound bites, especially birds, is the Macaulay Library of Sounds at Cornell. Here's the link:
They have sound samples of all kinds, just type into the search engine what you're looking for...looks like you've got 73 sound bites to listen to for the saw-whet. Cornell also has a fabulous CD set of owls from across North America that just came out a few years ago. It has multiple calls, sounds etc. for each species. It was the only CD that I found with the young fledgling begging sounds of Barred Owls that helped me clinch my mystery creepy woodland sound a few years ago up in Moretown.
Check out the link...I'd love to hear if you find out what it is. I do know that fall is a time when those little cosmically cute saw-whets are moving so whoooo knows!
(Sorry, had to do that!)
