I have been birding the swampy areas bordering the eastern and northern
edges of the cornfield behind the Marina Restaurant in Bratt. over the past
week. Yesterday evening,Oct. 7, 1 rusty blackbird was skulking low in the
north swamp. A nice variety of sparrows included 2 Lincoln Sp, 4 White-
Crowned Sps-2 adult and 2 immature, 2 Chipping Sp, 3 Swamp Sp, 4 White-
Throated SP, and several Savannah Sp and Song Sp. For warblers there were
several Myrtles, 2 C. Yellow Throats, and 3 Palms-eastern. Also noted in the
swamps were several G.W. Teal, at least 10 wood ducks, mallards, 1 GBH, 1
DB Cormorant, and 100's of RW Blackbirds. Hundreds of C. Geese were flying
into the fields, pond, and West River. As I was leaving I spotted an adult male
Back Scoter in the West River just north of the restaurant enjoying a little
solitude away from the geese.
