maybe its boxed instead. think of the slaves---how many of them revolted?
toni morrison, in the culture of poverty of yale or princeton, wrote a book called 'beloved' about how a slave mother killed her child to end the vicious cylce. thats one way.
it is interesting that those who profit off the culture of pverty often are both left off the hook and unmentioned; this may be because they sponsor those who criticize it. (there's a great paper on marketing to childsren at the fascist 'good work' site (which involves zimbardo i think, as well as howard gardner and william damon) which shows that marketers think they are doing good work. who had the time to read speculation that cigarettes cause cancer?)
