The 2007 Census of Ag was released today. It contain much more specific 
information than the yearly reports from NASS do (the yearly reports are 
extrapolations from statistical samples, while a census attempts to 
actually count everything).

1,043 VT farms with beef cattle, down from 1,101 in 2002
10,002 beef cows and heifers that calved, down from 11,276 in 2002
5 herds with 100+ cows
756  (72%) herds with 9 or fewer cows

Windsor County retains the lead, with 156 farms and 1,807 cows (both are up 
from 2002).
