We old folks have put our mind to this. I thought it might be some kind 
of "table" for baby care, perhaps arranged for bathing the infant ???   
My consort from Barre, Vt., thinks it could be an item of furniture -- 
perhaps a small chest or cupboard with doors in which items are stored
