Tom Ford-Hutchinson, Autumn Amici, and I headed down the Champlain
Valley this morning. Highlights include:
2-3 LAPLAND LONGSPURS perched in a tree along Slang Rd in Addison
Horned Larks in field along Slang Rd and Little Chicago Rd in Ferrisburgh
Pintail, Wood Duck, Am. Wigeon, Ring-necked Duck, Green-winged teal at
Hawkins Slang in Ferrisburgh
1 Rough-legged Hawk and 2 Northern Harriers at Button Bay
1 Bluebird at Button Bay
1 Belted Kingfisher at Shelburne Town Beach
MANY Snow Geese in several groups-- Basin Harbor Rd (near Panton Rd),
Greenbush Rd (N. Ferrisburgh?), and Hundreds to a thousand flying over
Fort Cassin Rd.
3 Bald Eagles along Ft. Cassin Rd and 1 adult along Slang Rd.
After seeing Jim Mead's post about the Tufted Duck and Eurasian
Wigeon, Autumn and I headed up to South Hero Causeway. We walked out
just about to the cut, but the large raft of scaup was far enough away
that it was hard to pick out either species. Luckily, something
spooked the group, and a smaller group landed relatively close,
allowing me to get great looks at one male TUFTED DUCK. However, the
group did not stay in the area long enough to check for the female or
the Eurasian Wigeon.
