Get a bulk tape eraser. Radio Shack is where you can find them (online
also). It is just a large electro magnet that reverses the polarity at a
very high speed so you just put it on top of the tape and pull the

Subject: Clearing data from tapes
We have a pile of backup tapes that we are no longer using. Does anyone
know of a way that they can be erased other than by using the tape
drives. Once they are erased, I was going to offer them to anyone on
the list that is interested.
