I recently heard about a case in which two separate technologists on two
separate studies called a patient positive for DVT. Subsequently following the
studies there were two physician reports calling the patient positive for DVT.
The patient was actually suffering from compartment syndrome and lost her
leg due administration of anticoagulation instead of being treated for the
compartment syndrome. Apparently the technologists could not compress the
vein and were getting no Doppler signal which lead to their conclusion. Has
anyone come across such a case and been able to identify compartment
syndrome vs DVT and how did you differentiate.
