Here are the ICAVL standards for reflux testing. This is where the push for
standing is coming.
220.127.116.11 Proper patient positioning:
18.104.22.168.1 For reflux examinations, patients must be evaluated in a
standing or sitting position
I always scan my venous patients in reverse trendelenberg and if they are
positive for reflux in this position I don't stand them but if they are negative I
will stand or sit them and I've never had a problem with anyone passing out on
me. Get a good history and let your patients know exactly what is going to
happen and ask them-if they think they can't stand sit them. I wouldn't even
risk it. Compared to head trauma- I'm thinking vv's are a minor problem.
