The first baltimore oriole of the year (*) showed up on Texas Hill Road in
Hinesburg on 5/5, though was first heard out and about on 5/3. The fifth also
yielded the first rose-breasted and evening grosbeaks, a chipping sparrow, and
the first loudly calling white-breasted nuthatch around the
wetland/meadow/forest ecotones in the area. On 5/9, FOY warbling vireos and
yellow warblers showed up. On 5/10, I happened upon a waterthrush
(unidentified to species) near the beaver pond blind at the Audubon center
down the road in Huntington. Later, near the Charlotte border, I spotted a
white-crowned sparrow along the roadside.
