The spate of warm weather has brought a lot of our friends home.
Here's what we've seen (or just heard) on our property this past week
phoebe (building a mossy nest in our barn)
chipping sparrow - lots of them
field sparrow (4/22)
white throated sparrow (actually already on 4/18)
white crowned sparrow (4//21)
brown thrasher (a pair singing lovesongs to each other)
We are still being eaten out of house and home by pine siskins and
goldfinches. I'm intrigued by reports of siskin fledglings. I need
to pay more attention. Had no idea that they nest so early, with the
goldfinches waiting all summer to get to it. Yellow-bellied
sapsuckers are making quite a racket in the neighborhood.
Ah, what's better than Spring?
