Six members of Rutland County Audubon surveyed the Pomainville Wildlife Management Area in Pittsford this morning with 60 species tallied.
Nesting season is well underway. Observed were a Mallard nest with 6 to 8 eggs; a female Hooded Merganser with eight young; a pair of Yellow-throated Vireos putting the finishing touches on a nest; and a Yellow Warbler nest with four eggs.
Alder and Willow flycatchers have returned. No Eastern Meadowlarks (present last year) were observed.
