It is my suggestion that acquisition of these funds be split between
the Department of Computer Science as well as by CEMS. If there's
anything I missed, you feel any of my expectations are unreasonable,
or believe money should be redistributed differently, please shoot me
a letter or bring it up at our meeting tomorrow (5:15 PM, Votey 252
aka Hacker Lab).

=======================
CSSA BUDGET 2009 - 2010
=======================

+-------------------------------------------------------------
| * Please note that the following are HIGH PRIORITY items.]
+-------------------------------------------------------------

$1,000.00 ALLOWANCE for maintaining and updating computer science
laboratory equipment. These funds are desperately needed to
accommodate the growth of our association. Currently, our
computer science student association has insufficient equipment
and the machines that we have are less capable than the standard
UVM lab machines. We currently have 5 machines operational and
an upper limit of 17 participators. These requested funds would
go toward potentially buying new machines as well as towards lab
maintainance. Two of our machines have defective power supplies
and (as a result) do not turn on. Also, our lab uses CRT monitors
which cause eye strain and are potentially cancerous.
$..150.00 ALLOWANCE for books and research literature, office supplies,
           computer software, and software licenses.
$..250.00 ALLOWANCE for travel costs to attend local computer science
seminars and a budget to hire guest speakers
$..350.00 ALLOWANCE for hosting CSSA events (costs of food, advertising,
prizes). Events include web design and programming competitions,
           honeypots, bowling outings, etc.
$..250.00 ALLOWNACE for research and development equipment. This amount
includes a budget for wireless GPS sensors for our current
CatTrack (UVM On Campus Transit Tracking) system, the OCELOT
virtualization computing system (available as a public service
to all UVM students), and our Beowulf super computer cluster
           project.
= -------
$2,000.00 - Total funding request for HIGH PRIORITY items

+--------------------------------------------------------------
| LOW PRIORITY
+--------------------------------------------------------------
If it is within the CEMS budget, the CSSA also requests $350.00 to
make club shirts (25 people * $14 shirts). While we do not view
this as a high priority item, we feel club tee-shirts would help
raise CSSA awareness and a sense of community within the department
of computer science.

Sincerely,
- Michael E. Karpeles
