Thanks, John, for asking! As always it is nice to learn from each other. Our
guidelines are attached, and staff who use the portable labs are asked to
attend a brief training each year.
Is anyone leaving laptops on and sleeping vs. shutting down between
sessions? I heard that this might be one strategy for quick starts,
particularly if chargers are on a timer.
How are others dealing with back-to-back-to-back classes and charging? This
issue began to crop up last year. Previously it had not been an issue as use
was not as heavy. I have some people advocating for extra power cords but I
don't think they are thinking clearly (where are your 20 outlets?), plus the
liability of cords everywhere and increased strain in AC ports.
I appreciate the idea of having kids sign a log specifying which laptop they
used: it might bring some accountability to the occasional damage.
