And THAT is just one reason why we are pushing forward with OO - we just
can't afford to keep M$ software "current!"
We have been using a mix of office 2003/XP/2000 but started installing OO on
all machines two years ago. We have also been giving it to students who do
not have Word at home to broaden our community experience with OO. We have
now moved some of our Mac labs and all of our classroom ("third tier")
machines to OO exclusively (retiring office 2K), and are about to do this
with our high-use library computers as well. We will continue to use 2003
until it begins to show it's age, at which point I would expect OO to have
exceeded what 2003 can do.
Sure, there are occasional formatting issues but I believe that will only
effect a small percentage of our users. Time will tell. We did also follow
some of the advice last spring and installed Oxygen Office with a full
Gallery so that lack of clipart is not an issue.
