Just a quick note to remind your students that the application
deadline for the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine's Summer
Premedical Academic Enrichment Program (SPAEP) is March 1, 2010. The
program is 7 weeks in length, includes travel, room/board and a $1,000
stipend. Hosted by the Office of Diversity Programs, SPAEP includes
two levels of programming.
* Level I is for students who have not yet had organic
chemistry (generally rising sophomores or juniors), and includes a
classroom-based curriculum focusing on the basic science behind
illnesses prevalent in underserved communities.
* Level II is a mentored lab research program. Areas of
research available vary according to student interests. In addition,
there are externally-funded positions available in autism and
infectious disease research.
