Marc-
Here's a trick I've used many times when confronted with the same "there's a list, but we don't know who owns(ed) it" problem. This comes up most often in the case of people who want to get off of a list but can't get any response using the proper channels.
Send an email to [log in to unmask]
In the body of the message enter:
review [log in to unmask]
Obviously replacing "nameoflist".
Send the message.
What you will get back is essentially an error response (because unless you're having serious memory issues, you're not the owner of the list in question) saying that the server isn't going to give you the list of subscribers. But it also returns the list header, which gives you the email addresse(s) and names of the owner(s).

There is a Craig Damon still at UVM, not sure if it's the same person:
http://www.uvm.edu/directory/?Page=query_results.php&name=damon&phone=&department=&uid=#Craig.Damon
All that Craig needs to do is login into the http://list.uvm.edu web based list management interface, put someone else on the list as manager and take himself off.
If Craig isn't still at UVM then Account Services can help you out.
