After searching near the fishing shanties on Kelly Bay with two birders from 
Potsdam and one from Syracuse we decided to look over the western shore. 
Driving south on Lake St. I saw a jetty from a distance and made a turn into 
Stony Point Rd. After walking a short distance I used my 10X binos and 
spotted a solitary white bird. I pointed it out to the fellow birder from 
Syracuse and he confirmed the sighting with his more powerful binos. A few 
minutes later we were able to look with an  80mm field scope and could easily 
ID the Ivory Gull. I took some pictures but the gull was a good 300+ yards 
away. 
Another birder joined us a few minutes later, I think his name was Bill 
(Purcell?) and he told us that he had seen a Hawk Owl not too far from were 
we were. We followed him to the spot but unfortunately the bird was not 
present. I think the spot was on Prospect St. across from an industrial park.

The ice on Kelly Bay is about 15 in. thick so it should be safe to walk for quite 
a bit longer. As long as I can see the snowmobiles going back and forth it 
would be OK to walk o the bay. The gull has been seen eating fish scraps near 
the shanties so that should be a prime area to look again. There are no fishing 
shanties on the west shore (NY side) and I do not recall seeing any north of 
the bridge. 
We were fortunate that the weather was pretty good, plenty of sun but the 
wind was fairly stiff (gusts 15-25 mph) off & on.
