Charlotte Town Beach(yesterday- 2/23/10):
I had a very quick look at a male White-winged Scoter at 11:51 a.m. I was
scanning the group of Common Goldeneyes (400-500) when I spotted the
Scoter on the water. I watched it for about 15 seconds when it suddenly
lifted off and flew toward the northwest, turned and flew on a beeline heading
south until I could no longer see it.
Also seen;
2 Common Loon
1 Red-breasted Merganser (m)
I then went to Blodgett Beach and was able to locate the adult Glaucous Gull.
This Glaucous Gull is worth getting a look at especially if you have never seen
an adult. It is the best look that I have ever had at an adult. I have seen
them at the Burlington Intervale but they usually have some amount of
compost on their bills,feet and legs. Seeing this one on the ice (about 50'
away from me) offered me a very cleanly plummaged look.
Enjoy Birds,
