Yesterday while working on the water at the south end of Lake Champlain
between the mouth of East Creek (Orwell) and Peters Bay (Benson)(11 miles) I
was able to make some casual sightings of particular note. Foremost was a
count of 21 Bald Eagles (5 mature; 16 immature). 17 of these were on the NY
side and 4 in VT. Unfortuanately I was not able to take counts of all
species seen. Wood Ducks and groups of Common Mergansers are very
common. Sightings in VT including FOY VT birds (underlined):
*Buffleheads*
*Red-breasted Merganser* 1
*Double-crested Cormorant* 1
Red-tailed Hawk 2
Ring-billed Gulls
Great Black-backed Gull 2
*Belted Kingfisher* 1
*Northern Flicker* 1
American Crows
Common Ravens
*Tree Swallows*
Red-winged Blackbirds
