I was at the pull-off area on Rte. 116, south of Cheese Factory Road and saw
a Northern Shrike adult, hunting at 8:10 a.m. It was not successful in
capturing a meal while I was observing it. It did however offer many great
looks atop several different trees and shrubs (on both sides of Rte. 116).
I then went to (Shelburne) Pond Road and was able to find an Eastern
Meadowlark singing on a fence post at 8:37 a.m. What a song and what a
beautiful bird. I was about 500 yds. from Dorset Street.
I went as far south as Converse Bay (in Charlotte), where I spotted a
Cooper's Hawk carrying nesting material into a tall Pine Tree. The tree is on
the right side of the access road as one is pulling in from Cedar Beach Road. It
is approx. 30 yds. from Cedar Beach Road. I was there at 9:33 a.m.
Enjoy Birds,
