Hi VTBirders,

There is currently a juvenile Northern Shrike hanging out around the
building at North Branch Nature Center in Montpelier. The shrikes seen
earlier this season were adults, so we've had at least two individuals visit
this winter!

I'm also including info below on a few upcoming programs that may be of
interest to those on the list. Happy birding, have a nice weekend!

*Dark Side of the Loon*
Friday, March 5, 7:00 pm (at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier)
Fee: donations welcome, food and beverages available
The eerie calls and striking black and white plumage of the common loon
captivate those of us who spend time on northern lakes and ponds between
April and October. Then the loons disappear. Quiet descends. Where do they
go? How do they survive in winter? Vermont Loon Biologist of the Vermont
Center for Ecostudies, Eric Hanson, will host the showing of this new
documentary <http://www.darksideoftheloon.com/> exploring the wintering life
of loons by Wolcott filmmaker and producer, Gail Osherenko.

*Naturally Nicaragua Dinner*
Saturday, March 13, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Fee: $10 adult or take-out, $5 child
at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier (130 Main St.)
Come join local youth for a dinner to benefit their trip to Nicaragua. This
evening will be a wonderful celebration of the Nicaraguan culture! Teens
will create a wonderful
meal of enchiladas, rice and beans, salad, and dessert. Join us throughout
the night for entertainment including Jairo Sequeira, playing traditional
Latin American music, a fabulous band from Northfield HS and Planting Hope,
presenting about their February trip. Also, don’t miss out on the silent
auction, with unique items from generous area businesses!
