Interested in global health? Want to volunteer in South America this summer?


Come to a MEDLIFE INFO SESSION THIS THURSDAY, 7pm, Waterman 413!



The UVM MEDLIFE chapter is organizing volunteer trips to Ecuador,  
Peru, and Panama this summer!


         MEDLIFE is a nationally-recognized non-profit organization  
which stands for Medicine, Education, and Development for Low Income  
Families Everywhere. UVM MEDLIFE is a student run MEDLIFE chapter on  
campus which organizes service trips to areas of Ecuador, Peru, and  
Panama. Members of MEDLIFE believe that access to healthcare,  
education, and clean water are all basic human rights, and students  
take action to help others in these countries.


     Students are responsible for paying a $650 trip fee which can be  
nearly waived if the student is able to fundraise just over $1000. The  
trip fee covers food, lodging, and transportation in-country. Beyond  
that, the student is responsible for paying airfare, which can range  
from $500-700. We also have some scholarships available!


     Students on brigades will have the opportunity to assist and  
shadow doctors, organize and manage medical clinics, learn basic  
Spanish, and gain a better perspective on global health. Many patients  
will be treated for aches, pains, malnutrition, and parasites, but  
MEDLIFE also follows-up with a number of special cases which demand  
follow-up care after students leave. MEDLIFE has provided surgeries  
and follow-up care to many patients over the years, and students will  
gain perspective on the referral and follow-up process as well. This  
is a wonderful experience for students who are interested in going  
into a health care field or who would like to gain a better  
understanding of issues in poverty and global health.


     There is no Spanish language requirement or specific major  
necessary to be a part of MEDLIFE. Global health is multi-faceted and  
demands interested students from all fields of study.
