The Forest Ecosystem Health Lab at UVM's Rubenstein School for
Environment and Natural Resources is hiring four interns for the summer
(June 1-Sept. 6, 2010) to conduct invasive plant and insect surveys at
state- and federally-owned campgrounds and recreation sites in western
Vermont. The survey is funded by the Vermont Department of Forests,
Parks and Recreation. This work will involve travel by car to the
southern and northern borders of the state, frequent camping at public
campgrounds, and long hours working in field conditions (heat, humidity,
terrain, etc.). *

Required qualifications:* previous fieldwork or camping experience,
proven ability to work independently with limited supervision, aptitude
for learning to identify plant and insect species, and an ability to get
along well with others. *
*
*Preferred qualifications:* previous plant and/or insect survey
experience, proficiency using Microsoft Excel and ESRI GIS applications
(e.g. ArcPad, ArcMap), UVM driving certification, familiarity with
ecological concepts, experience in environmental education/outreach,
First Aid/CPR certification*.
*
*Compensation:* $2000 for the entire work term (June 1-Sept. 6).
Flexible schedule with large blocks of time off in exchange for
sometimes long work days/weeks. Internship credit available. *
