I've used wordpress for a personal blog as well, it's very intuitive and clean. I wonder though if a school has a Google Educational Domain already why not just use Google Sites; where each student creates their own e-portfolio web site, it would allow easy integration of their Google docs (docs, spreadsheets, presentations) and other media via picasa, or video.

I am using wordpress to run my personal blog http://www.uponourtable.com
I'd be really interested in exploring this with you - I think for e-portfolios wordpress has a lot of promise for private hosting.

We are exploring some different platforms for e-portfolios and comparing the
pros and cons of each.
We have an interest in some of the projects out there using wordpress for
various reasons.
Anyone else using wordpress for anything who let us "pick your brain".
