Honestly my friends Sonographer / Technologist is a proud title. However the word Technician should never be used.

In my institution, "Sonographers" are highly regarded, respected, and well paid.
 A technologist is not.  My superiors recognize me as a "Vascular Sonographer". 
I go with it....
