This past weekend I observed three separate groupings of turkey moms and their broods. I was traveling from Barre to St J and northward to Island Pond. The largest grouping had 9 young ones in Marshfield, Danville had a brood of 8 young, and we saw 4 young with their mom (although there may have been more not visible).
This is the first time I have seen any turkey families and I am curious if this is an unusually prolific year for them or I was simply fortunate to see three families.
On a different note, a hike into Moose bog yielded, grey jays, red breasted nuthatches, brown creepers, and an osprey. I had seen a spruce grouse earlier this summer but did not connect this time.
